Clean Your Diffuser: How-Why-When
I'm using my diffuser to go to sleep, clear the kitchen smells, set the mood for guests, keep my focus and upbeat concentration in my office, and help my dad sleep at night (he took mine, I got a new one). I love what essential oils do to help me in my life, but I do have to remind myself to PAUSE.
WHEN
Pause, and clean your diffuser after each use if you can. It's ideal. If that's just too much work, just try. It's a best practice. Minimally, do it when you shift oils, every few days if you're using the same oil, and maybe a deep clean once a week. It doesn't take more than 2-3 minutes, and it's for health!
WHY
No residue: you're using one oil, and you want the next oil(s) to come through, cleanly and purely
Clean as a whistle and optimum health benefits: who wants old water (gross and not that healthy)
Machine maintenance: you want to prevent corrosion (it's a machine after all, even though it just seems like a self care gift that's so graceful and pretty) - keep that machine in top condition for as long as possible (just like you) - leftover oils and water can ruin the diffuser
HOW - QUICK CLEAN
Diffuse lemon for a bit, then soap, rinse, and wipe dry.
Swipe a Q-tip around the mist chip with alchohol or white vinegar.
HOW - DEEP CLEAN
Do this once a month or once a week (I'm at once a week b/c of high use. Your call. These tips are modified from the doTERRA recommendations.)
Fill water to the half line with clean water
Add 10 drops white vinegar to the water
Turn on and let run for 3 minutes
Drain the water
Wipe the mist chip with vinegar or small amount of alcohol
Rinse with clean water
Wipe with a dry cloth and let air dry a little, too
Diffuse away, and know - with confidence - you're getting the most pure experience when you take care of your diffuser.
