Fun twists for T-day and a season of eating

I really don't want any before and after pictures this Thanksgiving, thank you very much, but a before-and-after twisting practice can prep the body for amazing bountiful nourishment, then, get it ready to let it go afterward (you know what I mean).

Try a twisting and releasing one-two punch an hour before you dive into the feast. Then, about an hour afterward (if you're not snoozing), do it again.

  1. Sit in a chair with your knees straight forward, prayer your hands, and hook your left elbow on the outside of the right knee. Try to lengthen your spine instead of being hunched over.

  2. Breathe deeply and stay for a few breaths (try five and see how it goes).

  3. Repeat step #1 but twist to the left, hooking your right elbow on the outside of your left knee.

  4. Breathe deeply and stay.

If you're really feeling motivated, try a few more poses more frequently heading into deep eating season and keep it going through January. I wrote all about it for Sonima: 5 Gentle Yoga Poses for Digestion After a Big Meal.

Enjoy! I'm so grateful for all we have.
