Skin Care You Make - Just for You

Time to rejuvenate this chick!

It feels like a new beginning, with the CDC saying we can unmask if we’re double vax’d, and I decided my often-hidden, lower half of my face needed some TLC to face the world again. It had been awhile since I’d treated myself to my go-to skin care that I make at home (for hardly any money, I might add).

After a weekend of teaching yoga, ayurveda, and ayurveda beauty, one of my students said the perfect thing.

“I felt like this facial was made just for my skin!”

It’s true. I like to give my face special attention once a week. I mean, it’s getting a lot of airtime on zoom, etc. You know. This time also gives me moments to breathe, sit, and be quiet. The whole thing takes five to 10 minutes. Try it.

THE RECIPE

In this recipe, you’ll find ingredients that are natural, whole, and tridoshic - meaning they’re good for all doshas and pretty much all skins, including sensitive. I make a small batch and keep it in a glass jar.

Christine’s Chick Rejuvenator

A Replenishing Herbal Face Mask

  • 2 T chickpea flour* - exfoliating and moisturizing

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric - anti-inflammatory, reduces dead skin cells, brightens skin

  • 1/4 tsp triphala - detoxifying herb to tone and support skin (and gut, if ingested)

  • 1/2 tsp sandalwood powder - reduces wrinkles and brightens skin

*At the Indian grocery store, you might see this labeled as besan.

  1. Mix approximately 1 T in your palm wit dashes of water, gradually, to make a watery paste. Apply.

  2. Leave on until it feels tightened or looks clay-like.

  3. Rinse off your face with warm water (or cool in the summer) with an old towel to avoid staining with turmeric. Moisturize as you’d like.

  4. Apply sunscreen if you’re doing this in the morning.

FACE MASK BOOSTERS

Start there, and it’s great! If you want to make it your own, even more, here are a couple of ideas.

For Mature Skins: Add Clary Sage + Green Mandarin

Add to your palm in prep, one drop of clary sage (relaxing, anti-inflammatory, and support for menopause) and one drop of green mandarin (anti-aging, promotes cellular growth).

Green mandarin is the only citrus that is not photosensitive. For most citruses, you should avoid sun after applying them with a carrier on your skin. This one is tridoshic, too. Get these good oils here

(I put them in a shopping bag for you, you can also ask me about wholesale.)

For blotchiness: Add Lavender

To your palm prep, add one drop of good lavender essential oil or a sprinkle of crushed lavender leaves.

For eczema or inflamed skin: add Neem powder

1/4 tsp of neem powder to the base mix will help address skins with excess pitta or help support pitta types, with soothing and cooling properties to reduce inflammation.

To retain moisture: add Rose

To your palm prep, add two drops of good rose essential oil or a sprinkle of crushed rose petals. This one is nice for vata types to lock in moisturizer, applied afterward.

Kapha types, chances are your skin looks unreal already, glowing and vital. Enjoy and take care of yourselves.
